At à La Carte Meats, we hand-pick premium-quality meat from farms we can trust.

Among our most prized offerings is the award-winning 2GR Australian Wagyu by Hancock Agriculture—a name that has become synonymous with luxurious texture, refined marbling and the best of Australian cattle craftsmanship.

What makes 2GR Wagyu so special? Let’s take a closer look at the story behind the steak—one that stretches across generations, regions and a deep respect for premium Australian agriculture.

The inspiration behind the 2GR brand dates back more than a century. In the late 1800s, Mrs. Gina Rinehart’s great-grandfather established the ‘H3B’ brand for cattle and sheep, named after his three sons—George, John and Richard Hancock.

That legacy continued through generations, with George Hancock becoming Mrs Rinehart’s grandfather.

Fast-forward to today, and that same pioneering spirit lives on in the 2GR brand, which stands for Gina Rinehart and her daughter Ginia Rinehart. The initials pay tribute to the family’s enduring commitment to Australian agriculture, now reimagined through the lens of luxury Wagyu beef.

Parent company Hancock Prospecting, has now significantly expanded its interest in Wagyu beef, acquiring and developing cattle stations across New South Wales and Queensland. The company now manages one of the largest Wagyu herds in Australia, with more than 38,000 fullblood breeder cattle.

In Queensland, Hancock Prospecting is currently developing an F1 Wagyu herd across 3,300 hectares of farmland, leveraging its own full-blood Wagyu genetics crossed with prime Angus breeders. This crossbreeding program is designed to make the most of the company’s premium land holdings while producing consistent, high-marbling beef.

This isn’t just any beef operation. These properties have been handpicked for their fertile soils, clean water sources, and ideal climate—offering optimal conditions to raise full-blood and crossbred Wagyu cattle to world-class standards.

The luxury of 2GR Wagyu lies not only in its genetics but in its meticulously managed feeding regime. Each animal is part of a 400-day Japanese-style grain feeding program, designed to promote consistent intramuscular marbling while maintaining animal welfare as a top priority.

This proprietary grain mix is formulated to enhance flavour, tenderness and juiciness—creating that signature buttery mouthfeel Wagyu is famous for. The result? A richly marbled steak with incredible depth of flavour that melts effortlessly on the grill or pan.

Australia is known for its clean, green approach to agriculture, and 2GR Wagyu proudly upholds that standard. It’s not just premium—it’s traceable ethical and produced with care.

In a market increasingly driven by discerning chefs and health-conscious diners, 2GR stands out as a local product with global appeal. It’s found in fine dining restaurants across Australia, Asia, the Middle East and beyond—and thanks to à La Carte Meats, it’s also accessible to venues across the country that want to offer their guests something truly extraordinary.
